Where it all began…
A bead cap, a crafts night and a vision.
Artist Completely, Amber Mimz established Hair Sprinkles on imagination and ingenuity, 2012 in SE, Washington DC. The mission, is to encourage and inspire black women, and all women around the world to express their inner joy and love themselves the way they are naturally. Inspired by a crafty night in 2011 with friends and Alfre Woodard’s beaded cap by natural hair stylists, Anu Prestoriain in the Spike Lee Joint, “Crooklyn,” Amber had an idea. Set in the 1970’s but filmed in 1994, Alfre’s beaded cap was used as a reference to emulate this style on a friend’s sister locs. Little did she know with her family history of hair artistry & entrepreneurship that this experiment would change her life, the loc industry and inspire professional, creative, driven & confident women around the country & globe.
Today Amber continues to build Hair Sprinkles by offering courses to teach others how to install and use her branded long-lasting, non-damaging technique. To date, Hair Sprinkles has been featured in Allure Magazine.
